Welcome to our new WPARC.ORG Site!

You found us! Welcome to the new Western Placer Amateur Radio Club site, wparc.org. We're glad that you're here!

Our former website domain wparc.us was personally owned by one of our members. When he became a Silent Key some years ago the club had to scramble to reinstate the website as it was being taken down by our Internet Service Provider (ISP). Once we surmounted the hosting hurdle the club attempted to claim the wparc.us website domain. To shorten a long story, the domain was not bequeathed to the club and there was no path for the club to take ownership of the wparc.us domain.

We will release the wparc.us domain in January 2027. This allows our members and visitors to update their bookmarks over the next few months, then the old website wparc.us will be a memory.

WPARC News
WPARC Ham Fest - New Date! Saturday Sep 12, 7 AM - noon
Save the NEW DATE for the Western Placer annual Ham Fest on the morning of Saturday, September 12 at McBean Park in Lincoln, CA. This is a new date one week earlier than originally communicated. The city mixed up our requested date and offered this date as our consolation prize date.

If you're selling or buying something radio-related then this is your invitation to attend! No RSVP needed. There will be drawings for prizes, you don't need to be present to win. See our flyer above

Sellers: Please bring only your radio-related items. Sellers can arrive onsite at 6:00 AM to set up. Each parking lot stall rents for $10 each. Please plan to provide your own tables and chairs, none are available onsite.

Buyers: Ham Fest opens for business at 7:00 AM. It's absolutely free to attend and bring plenty of cash for when you want to snag that special treasure someone else is selling.

Talk-in on K6PAC 2M FM 147.300 + 67 Hz. The Ham Fest usually closes by noon so come early to get the good stuff! We hope to see you there!

Directions to McBean Park Pavillion parking lot on Google Maps. Please enter from the 4th Street / McBean Park Drive side. The south access road beside McBean Stadium baseball field will be blocked to vehicles.

Tour de Lincoln - Hams Needed - Oct 17
Tour de Lincoln is a premier regional bicycling event hosted by the Lincoln Rotary each year. WPARC has proudly supported this event each year by providing communications across the four cycling courses: 10K, 25K, 50K, and 100K. As you might imagine this covers a lot of local roads! Hams are needed to provide Support and Gear (SAG) wagons using their personal vehicles. Other hams are needed to support communications at rest stops and net control. Some amateur radio operators have already signed up to support the event again this year, and more are needed to fill remaining positions. Please email Jey KQ6DK to register or inquire as ham communicator. The event includes a barbeque lunch. Will you be there?

WPARC Nets Need You
Our weekly club nets need YOU! The same fourteen members have taken net control time and again, and more than once in a month in a few cases. Net control is good to practice in a controlled setting like our weekly Thursday night nets. There is a simple script to follow. It builds confidence in your skills and helps you to master your radio. Please consider signing up for your turn as Net Control. Check in to our weekly net on Thursday evening, 7:30 pm, using our K6PAC repeater. When you check-in inform Net Control that you'd like to have a turn as Net Control. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to participate in your club activities.

In Search Of: Event Coordinators
Your help is needed to plan fun member activities this year. September Ham Fest (Sep 12), Family Picnic or Pot Luck social gatherings, one or more fox hunts, Parks On The Air (POTA) activation(s), and similar activities. There are probably other events I didn't even think to include! Are you a good event organizer? Please select an event and talk to any club leader to make ham radio fun again for us all.

WPARC C4FM Repeater KK6NFM/R is On the Air!
WPARC C4FM repeater is back on the air. C4FM, also known as Yaesu System Fusion, is a digital mode communication service. The repeater is on 147.330 + PL 67.0. It is operating from the valley floor atop a modest mast. The projected RF footprint grants wide coverage across the greater Sacramento Valley region. The repeater is temporarily in dual mode (FM and C4FM) but that may change in the future. This is an open repeater. Key it up!

LHARG Ham Radio Book Lending Library
Secretary/Treasurer Michael K6BUK writes: I am pleased to announce that WPARC has joined with our affiliated club, the Lincoln Hills Amateur Radio Group (LHARG) to develop a library of ham-related books. Many thanks to LHARG/WPARC member Dan KN6DRN for his time and effort to create the new library. It will be housed at the LHARG club building, the south entry building, in Sun City Lincoln Hills, on the corner of Joiner and Del Webb Blvd. Access is limited to LHARG club meeting hours on Monday nights from about 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. You may also request a book from Dan or Michael Buck, K6BUK, and we will send them to the monthly WPARC meeting. The library is quite extensive. If you have any books not presently in this library and you would like to donate them, we would greatly appreciate it.

A list of available books is on the LHARG Lending Library page.

WPARC Monthly Traffic Net
For the 2026 year, our Club initiated a Traffic Net. The Net will convene the second Thursday of each month, following the regular WPARC Net at 8 pm. Click to download the Traffic Net script [pdf]. The purpose of the Traffic Net is to familiarize members with message handling procedures and techniques using NTS Guidelines, and to practice transmitting or receiving an exercise or drill message via the airwaves using the FEMA ICS-213 form. You can find a fill-able ICS-213 form [pdf] for either download, print, or to be filled online. In essence, this is a 30-minute-long training session.

The Traffic Net utilizes "Pro Words" to help speed concise communication. You can familiarize yourself with "Pro Words" downloading and reviewing our ProWords Guide [pdf]
