| Welcome to our new WPARC.ORG Site! |
|
Welcome to the new Western Placer Amateur Radio Club site, wparc.org. We're glad that you're here!
Our former website domain wparc.us was personally owned by one of our members. When he became a Silent Key some years ago the club had to scramble to reinstate the website as it was being taken down by our Internet Service Provider (ISP). Once we surmounted that hosting hurdle the club attempted to claim the wparc.us website domain. To shorten a long story, the domain was not bequeathed to the club and there was no path for the club to take ownership of the wparc.us domain.
We will release the wparc.us domain in January 2027. This allows our members and visitors to update their bookmarks over the next few months, then the old website wparc.us will be a memory.

- WPARC Ham Fest - Saturday Sep 19, 7 AM - noon
- Save the Date for the Western Placer annual Ham Fest on the morning of Saturday, September 19 at McBean Park in Lincoln, CA. If you're selling or buying something radio related then this is your invitation to attend! Each parking lot stall for sellers is at deal at only $10 apiece. If you're coming to shop then that's absolutely free! But bring plenty of cash for when you want to snag that special treasure someone else is selling. There will be a drawing for prizes. More information will follow. We hope to see you there!
- WPARC Field Day was a Success!
- WPARC hosted a Saturday-only Field Day event at Foskett Regional Park in Lincoln, CA. Members arrived early to set up in preparation for the 11 AM PT start time. Our Field Day Leader James KK6EGJ did a masterful job in marshaling the members, setting up the site, providing appropriate signage, and safety considertions. A few minor radio glitches were resolved and we had a 4-Alpha station on the air. One of our member's XYL cooked some yummy cheeseburgers for lunch. We ate well! ARRL Sacramento Valley Section Manager Jay Ballinger N6SAC visited the site in the early afternoon. We hosted a tape measure direction finding antenna build activity, followed by a fox hunt afterwards. We made a run to Brick and Barrel pizza for dinner and almost polished off two large pizzas at our Field Day site. The day wrapped up before the park curfew at 9 PM. It was some fun! We have pictures to share.
- WPARC Officer Changes
- As voted and approved during the April 21 member meeting, the club is pursuing a 501(c)(3) designation. The club needs to prepare for this transition by juggling some of the current officer and board positions to align with a new structure suitable for the new designation. At the May 19 member meeting some necessary officer and board member changes were announced and approved by the members present. The following changes to the board were approved by voice vote,
• Michael B K6BUK transitions into a Treasurer-only role, removing his Secretary hat,
• Jey Y KQ6DK transitions from Board Member into the Secretary role,
• Phillip T KO6CYU transitions from Alternate Board member to full Board member,
• Art F KI6GYY joins (was drafted?) the board as Alternate Board Member. Thank you Art!
The new officer and board changes are effective immediately. The list of officers and board members is updated at the bottom of this web page.
- In Search Of: Event Coordinators
- Your help is needed to plan fun member activities this year. September Ham Fest (Sep 19), Family Picnic or Pot Luck social gatherings, one or more fox hunts, Parks On The Air (POTA) activation(s), and similar activities. There are probably other events I didn't even think to include! Are you a good event organizer? Please select an event and talk to any club leader to make ham radio fun again for us all.

- WPARC C4FM Repeater KK6NFM/R is On the Air!
- WPARC C4FM repeater is back on the air. C4FM, also known as Yaesu System Fusion, is a digital mode communication service. The repeater is on 147.330 + PL 67.0. It is operating from the valley floor atop a modest mast. The projected RF footprint grants wide coverage across the greater Sacramento Valley region. The repeater is temporarily in dual mode (FM and C4FM) but that may change in the future. This is an open repeater. Key it up!
- LHARG Ham Radio Book Lending Library
- Secretary/Treasurer Michael K6BUK writes: I am pleased to announce that WPARC has joined with our affiliated club, the Lincoln Hills Amateur Radio Group (LHARG) to develop a library of ham-related books. Many thanks to LHARG/WPARC member Dan KN6DRN for his time and effort to create the new library. It will be housed at the LHARG club building, the south entry building, in Sun City Lincoln Hills, on the corner of Joiner and Del Webb Blvd. Access is limited to LHARG club meeting hours on Monday nights from about 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. You may also request a book from Dan or Michael Buck, K6BUK, and we will send them to the monthly WPARC meeting. The library is quite extensive. If you have any books not presently in this library and you would like to donate them, we would greatly appreciate it.
A list of available books is on the LHARG Lending Library page.

- WPARC Monthly Traffic Net
- For the 2026 year, our Club initiated a Traffic Net. The Net will convene the second Thursday of each month, following the regular WPARC Net at 8 pm. Click to download the Traffic Net script [pdf]. The purpose of the Traffic Net is to familiarize members with message handling procedures and techniques using NTS Guidelines, and to practice transmitting or receiving an exercise or drill message via the airwaves using the FEMA ICS-213 form. You can find a fill-able ICS-213 form [pdf] for either download, print, or to be filled online. In essence, this is a 30-minute-long training session.
The Traffic Net utilizes "Pro Words" to help speed concise communication. You can familiarize yourself with "Pro Words" downloading and reviewing our ProWords Guide [pdf]
